A texting log of Day 1

The following is a text log of our first day of travel:
9:40 am: My text to Boy #1 and Daughter-in-law #1 - On the road. We have driven 1 mile and still getting along.
Daughter-in-law #1 - Yay I can't wait to see u
My text to Boy #1 and Daughter-in-law #1 - Preliminary plans are being made on first rest stop. Have to pee. Words have been exchanged on stopping for breakfast.
Boy #1 - LOL still in ohio
My text to Boy #1 and Daughter-in-law #1 - In WV. Didn't get breakfast. Dad said I haven't annoyed him yet and he thought I would have by now. He's getting on my nerves.
Daughter-in-law #1 - LOL ur making good time
Boy #1 - LOL he talkin 2 much
Boy #1 - How do you like the WV mountains
My text to Boy #1 - Sorry for the delayed response found an antique shop. WV mountains are beautiful.

This is when we lost contact with the world in the West Virginia mountains. When I got my signal back I added Boy #3 to the texting conversation.

My text to Boy #1 and Daughter-in-law #1 and Boy #3 - We are now at the yelling at each other point but laughing about it. The GPS is trying to drive us off a bridge because dad called her a bitch right at the start of our trip. We are now using the google map that I'm reading. I'm scared.
Boy #3 - Thats a great way to start a vacation lol

The GPS bitch just told us to turn right into a mountain. She hates us. She seems to be trying to lull us into a false sense of security and then pulling a quick right turn. I'm on to her.

We were making good time, about 50 miles away from our agreed area to get a room but hit a bumper to bumper stand still traffic jamb. Damn.
7:00 pm - We are uncertain as to what state we are in. At some point we missed the "Welcome to North Carolina" sign. The GPS lady really has us rattled.

Having a great time wish you were here!

It just popped open on it's own

"You have to take my truck to work tomorrow, I'm taking your car in to get the trunk fixed."

My trunk? Why that hasn't worked since summer, June I believe. I've adjusted my life in such a way that I don't need a trunk anymore. What will I do with a fully functional trunk?
It popped open while we were out of town, just popped open on it's own and it took the husband several tries to get it to stay closed. "Don't open that until I get it looked at." Yes that was June. I remember now. Are our lives that busy that we can't sit at a dealership wait for our car to be fixed? Apparently.
We went out of town again in September, suitcase in the back seat. While driving home the husband pulled over, "What?"
"The trunk just popped open."
"Get the hell outta here."
We got out of the car, "Hey, look there's your new shoes we've been looking for all this time." I was excited. "I never thought to look for them in the trunk, funny isn't it?"
"Hold the shoes, I'll close the trunk."
When he was satisfied the trunk was secure we continued on our way. "Don't open that until I get it looked at." Yes that was September.
Now my trunk is fixed because the husband sat at the dealership for an hour and a half. He took a vacation day.
I'll need to adjust my way of life for the better, I'm sure. I can put my groceries in the trunk now and I have a place to transport the dead bodies again. It's a win/win.

I have enrolled in a creative writing class which starts tomorrow, I'm very excited about it. I'm telling all that read my blog so I push myself to achieve greatness. I won't settle for anything else. But on the off chance I have a bad day I will post this picture of a baby crying on FaceBook and you can offer words of encouragement if you would like. I also have no idea how much time it will take out of my day so I'm not sure when I will be able to post. Be patient, I'm sure the posts will get much better.

Sue and Bill's Wild Weekend Part 3: And This Will Be It Then

The uneventful vacations, the fun-filled, stress free vacations, are the ones the husband and I take alone. When we returned from our wild weekend, no-one had broken anyone else's arm, there was no throw-up in the back seat and the car didn't lose a door. We just came home and unpacked, with a lot less money, but we would have ended up spending it on the catastrophies that are our children anyway. I can't think of one vacation we've taken throughout the years that they didn't screw up in some way, we've been going about this vacation thing all wrong. We will be leaving them behind from now on.
Just in case my boys read this, "Mommy loves you!"

I have been roasted over at Confessions of a Reforming Geek or the husband has been, I think both of us. But Reforming Geek lumped me in with a couple of really good bloggers, Bee of Bee's Musings and Kirsten of The Soccer Mom Files, so I'm feeling pretty cool right now.
Thank you Reforming Geek!

Bringin' Sexy Back

Let me paint you a mental picture of Valentine’s Day at my house last night. I’m clutching a Nyquil shot glass in one hand, a fist full if tissues in the other, red nose, and I’m in my bathrobe and slippers by 7:00 pm. If that ain’t bringin sexy back, I don’t know what is. The husband was doing the taxes and if we didn’t have children, we’d have enough to go to Las Vegas. No discussion necessary, when it comes to vacation ideas, Las Vegas is on the top of our list.

There are plenty of things to do in Las Vegas besides gamble, so much so that the last time we went, we vowed to get to the seafood restaurant we kept passing up the time before last that we were there. We knew nothing about it, but we were intrigued. We didn’t know we were stepping into the most expensive restaurant we’ve ever been in. There were couples there that just got married in one of those Las Vegas Chapels, couples celebrating anniversary’s, we had stumbled into romance. The husband ordered an entire lobster and I had humongous crab legs. Black Jack had been very good to the husband that day! While dining like royalty, we discussed what was next for the evening. We have been to Las Vegas quite a few times but never gone downtown, we’ve always stayed on The Strip. When our waiter brought our check we asked him what was the easiest way to get downtown. He excused himself for a minute. When he came back guess what he said?

“Our limo will take you.”

So as I sit struggling to breath out of my nose I scour my Trusted Tours & Attractions newsletter looking for a way to justify taking a vacation while staring in the face of the upcoming summer of a graduation, a wedding, parties, bridal showers and a new teenage driver in the house.

Save 70% at Hotel Resevations

The husband and I were both wrapped up in afgans last night watching House, he looked over at me and said, “I didn’t expect us to look like this for at least ten more years.” We’re both sick. I wish I could call Hotel Reservations and head for some sunshine. The ultimate Christmas present for the husband would be anywhere with a casino, he’s not picky. Saving 70% at Hotel Reservations is a pretty good deal and getting out of our recliners and out from under our afgans sounds like an even better deal.

Trusted Tours and Attractions

They told us we’d have snow today, but I don’t see any yet. Snow before Christmas is okay with me, it covers up the leaves we haven’t raked yet and it adds to the Christmas feel. Snow after Christmas is another story. It usually sticks around way too long and has us dreaming of heading south. The husband and I have reached a point in our lives that we can start taking get away vacations, just the two of us. The boys are older now and they can take care of themselves and the dog. So I signed us up for Trusted Tours and Attractions Newsletter. Just in case the husband wants to whisk me away to Key West or somewhere, I’m ready! I was also automatically entered to win four free tickets to tours in a city of my choice when I signed up. I would definitely pick something historical for the husband, he’s a history buff. Key West has a Shipwreck Historeum Museum and I know he’d enjoy something like that. There are a bunch of tours to pick from, while I might not pick a Shipwreck Museum first, there’s plenty of room for compromising for the next tour we choose. I’m not so sure I can talk the husband into parasailing, but I’d give it a shot!

Thanksgiving Dinner, the Best Smell in the World

The dog and I had our morning walk, we took the winter route. Right now in Northeast Ohio it's unseasonably warm so doors and window are open and someone is cooking up a storm, spreading the heavenly scent of Thanksgiving throughout the neighborhood a day early. Boy did that smell good, I'm hungry for turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. The thought of Thanksgiving dinner makes the yogurt I'm eating right now all the more unsatisfying.
Did I mention I don't have to cook tomorrow, I think I did. My niece is having the Thanksgiving dinner this year, she will be surrounded by Thanksgiving dinner experts so I won't have to worry about the turkey turning out like the one on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I'm Calling Hotel Reservations

Boy do I need to get away! It’s only Wednesday but what a week I have had so far. We didn’t have water Monday night, I had the school calling me and telling me my son is not there only later call me and say whoops wrong kid, my car window got shattered by God knows what last night, the Police think it may have been a pellet gun. I have rain coming through the roof, oh and the power went out last night so we missed the last 10 minutes of the House premier. If anyone saw it would you like to fill me in on how House got his guitar back?

I’m calling Hotel Reservations. My husband is stressed out, I need to get him away too. Maybe I could talk him into a Bed and Breakfast, the prices at Hotel Reservations are very reasonable. The trick is to find a Bed and Breakfast that is situated near a Casino. When my husband goes on a get-away there has to be a Casino involved. He loves to play blackjack! I know I will be able to find what I’m looking for at Hotel Reservations. Whether we want a flight, need to rent a car or find a hotel. They have worldwide destinations, I don’t know if I’d be able to talk my husband into a major out of the county vacation though. I could give it a try. Hotel Reservations website is very easy to navigate, travel information is at your fingertips and they have an 800 number for you should you have any questions or problems.

All this planning can be done via the internet which is a good thing, it’s raining outside and I have no car window. I hope the rest of my week is uneventful.
